Description:

Mesmerised by the beauty of my ancestral town, Jaipur, the Pink City of India, I designed a travel guide on Adobe InDesign titled Banjara (wonderer). I formatted the title in Illustrator, giving a taste of the culture. Also, I edited the cover image in Photoshop, bringing the discrimination faced by tribal women to light. Emphasising Jaipur’s topography, I used a desert background and carried it to the next spread where I mapped places, making it easier for the readers to identify distances between locations. I used a multicolumn grid on page 3 describing the infamous Rajasthani Thali, created a form with the letter E of ‘eat’ and hyperlinked ‘Reserve Now’ in pink.

Displaying the magnanimous Palace of Winds, I filled pages 4-5, added a drop shadow to the heading, and aligned it outside the gutter. I used a taller font with red and wrapped it along the image to highlight violence against women. I drop capped H for the body text, adjusted line spacing, eliminated hyphens and widows, and justified the body text. On page 7, I depicted the purpose of the purdah by including images of women caged behind the colourful windows.

For pages 8-9, I struggled to flush right the body text, making it appear balanced.I added a curvilinear line to separate this text from the tour information, mimicking the scalloped edge in the image next to it. Finally, I took colours from the pictures on that page, cohesively tying them to the text.
