DATA VISUALISATION

Title: Can you spot the green line?

Medium: Adobe Illustrator, Excel

Size: 16.5 X 23.4 inches

Year: 2022

Description:

This data visualisation is on the worsening air pollution in New Delhi, my hometown. Since the past four years, Delhi has been ranked the most polluted city worldwide by the World Health Organisation. My visualisation maps the PM2.5 levels in 2021and the causes of its fluctuations. Further, I researched into its sources, finding ways such as incentivising e-vehicles to combat pollution.

Title: Inculcating Innovative Behaviour in Indian Family Firms

Medium: Adobe Illustrator

Size: 11.7 x 16.5 inches

Year: 2021

Description:

After analysing the dynamics of Indian family businesses for the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship, I decided to design a poster for the viewer to quickly and clearly understand my research. Since my survey respondents ranked making money and creating a legacy as the main goals of a family business, I started thumbnailing these themes. From making money bags to designing the bond of blood, I settled on the DNA strand, symbolising legacy. I created multiple versions of the strand, using the pen tool to create fine lines, grid mesh to add colour, and 3D tools to add weight. Later, I incorporated these elements by creating small circular symbols in green and orange hues to depict money and the Indian flag. I added these symbols to the brush palate and used them on a curved line to make the strand appear dynamic. I also made the end of strand wide, depicting the majority of the youth wanting to become Intrapreneurs, diversifying their family business by following their passion.

Moreover, I designed a rough layout of the vital factors of my research and condensed it into four steps. First, to make the text and statistics visually appealing, I experimented with type hierarchy, leading and adjusting the strand to carve negative spaces. Second, I  created icons including the burden of concentrated ownership, the need to professionalise the board, spark innovative thinking, and pass the business to support the text. Lastly, I added a similar colour scheme making the entire work consistent.
